Maria Kalesnikava was awarded the Gerhart and Renate Baum Human Rights Prize. Her sister, Tatiana Khomich, received it in Stuttgart on her behalf.

The ceremony was held on February 7 as part of the Eclat music festival. The prize amounts to 10.000 €.

Khomich read the address from her sister to the audience:

“I don't regret my decision, I am not afraid just like thousands of Belarusians. Now we know for sure that freedom is inside you - and neither prisons, nor walls, nor bars can kill it. And freedom is worth fighting for.”
